About This Approach

Pivotal Response Training focuses on 'pivotal' areas of development — core skills that, when strengthened, produce broad improvements across many other behaviors. Motivation is central: PRT sessions use child choice, task variation, and natural reinforcement to keep engagement high. Because the child directs much of the interaction, sessions feel more like play than therapy, which reduces behavioral resistance and increases generalization of learned skills.

Best Suited For

Children who need to build intrinsic motivation, spontaneous communication, and self-initiation. Particularly effective for social language development and for children who become rigid or resistant in highly structured settings. PRT is used alongside DTT in most of our individualized plans.
